Short Description:

Tour of Nafplion and Mycenae is available as a day trip from either Athens or Nafplion itself. Driven in a luxury vehicle and accompanied by our expert and engaging guide, you will first visit the place many consider to be the creative center of ancient Greek culture – Mycenae.

This once powerful city state traded all over the Mediterranean during the bronze age, and its history has become entwined with Greek Mythology. King Agamemnon who launched the war against Troy was ruler of these lands, where the walls are so big it was said the Cyclops themselves built them! Our guide will show you around the site, sharing not only the Greek myths connected with the city but also stories from the Percy Jackson books.

Moving on from Mycenae, the private tour then continues in Naflpion, a port town often described as the most beautiful in Greece. Here, you’ll be taken on a walking tour that takes in the main highlights, including where to find the best ice-cream in town! Combining sightseeing with excitement and relaxation, this day tour is one to remember!

What to expect:

We’ve designed Tour of Nafplion and Mycenae to have two different but equally enjoyable parts. The first, is a journey back into ancient Greece, to a time when myths were being lived and legends being made. This takes place at the very heart of one of the most powerful bronze age civilizations in Europe – Mycenae. Now classed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the remains of Mycenae dominate the landscape around it. Set amid awe-inspiring hills, visitors are still filled with wonder as they pass through the magnificent Lions Gate. Imagine how this must have felt 3000 years ago!

As our guide shows you around the site, they will explain not only the history, but the mythology connected with the city and civilization. Percy Jackson fans will also get a kick out of discovering the links between the myths and the books, and will soon learn that our guide is a huge Percy Jackson superfan! You’ll come away from Mycenae having not only learned something new about Ancient Greece, but also buzzing with excitement!

The second part of the day takes place back in Nafplion. Often considered to be one of the prettiest towns in Greece, it feels like it has been built for walking around. Our guide will lead you through the maze like streets of the historic section, up to a Venetian fortress, and to places where you get the best views and photos. You’ll feel totally at ease as you enjoy the neoclassical surroundings and waterfront sites. A great end to a perfect day!
