Short Description:

Our full day Percy Jackson Athens Mythology tour combines visiting the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum in the morning, with an afternoon trip out to Cape Sounion to see the Temple of Poseidon at sunset. It’s the perfect way to maximize your time in Athens in the company of an expert local guide in the morning, and a must for beach and sunset lovers.

Specifically designed with families in mind, this private full day tour of Athens and Sounion is a chance to learn about the history and mythology of Ancient Greece. Not only does it cover visiting the major archaeological sites of the Acropolis, Parthenon, and the Acropolis Museum, but it also includes plenty of interactive games, a swim at a great family beach with crystal waters and fun for the kids along the way! If you have just one full day in Athens with the family, this private full day tour is a must.

What to expect:

Your private full day tour of Athens begins when you meet our kid friendly local licensed guide. After introductions, they will explain what is in store for the day, and then lead the way to the first destination which is the Acropolis.

The sacred Acropolis Hill dominated ancient Athens and even today it looks a monumental sight. On the walk up to the top, your guide will keep everyone engaged with stories of the different ancient gods and Greek myths associated with the Acropolis. Percy Jackson fans may already know of Athena and Poseidon, but there are also many others associated with this archaeological site.

On arriving at the top of the Acropolis Hill, our guide will then start to explain about the different structures and their importance. They will also involve the kids with interactive games and puzzles so that it is a fun learning experience for them as well!

When you have taken all the photos of the Parthenon, Acropolis, and views out over Athens you desire, your guide will lead you back down the hill once more. Your next destination will be the Acropolis Museum. This modern museum is often thought to be one of the best in Greece, and the kids will love the way our guide weaves together explaining the most significant artefacts with a few interactive games and more stories from Greek mythology.

Depending on the time of day and how hungry everyone is when leaving the Museum, there are many choices for lunch. After everyone has eaten and rested, the day continues on to Cape Sounion. We are picking you up from your accommodation and take you to a scenic beach with crystal waters.

With the sun finally setting, you are heading to the Temple of Poseidon (a temple dedicated to Percy’s father). You will see how the temple changes color in the light whilst the sun slowly disappears. The sunset from the Temple of Poseidon is truly spectacular, and your family will appreciate the magic of the location as much as the ancient Greeks surely did. After the sunset has finished, we’ll leave the Temple of Poseidon behind us, and drive to Athens where you will be taken back to your hotel.

It’s been a full day on the Athens Mythology tour, but one which everyone will have enjoyed, especially the kids! Are you interested in discovering more about our other Percy Jackson tours? We really enjoyed the Percy Jackson tour with Evita. We got on well and she was a lovely girl. We got so much information to take in and all so interesting. She helped us take in the significance of all we saw. She was very patient with us and interacted with our daughter who is a mythology buff. Would highly recommend Evita.

These guys did a fantastic job of keeping 3 kids (9,9 and 11) and two adults, engaged throughout a fantastic tour of the Ancient Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. The tour guide, Maria-Ellena was great, her English was fantastic (she also speaks Italian as well as Greek of course) and the kids loved listening to all of the stories and how and where they appeared throughout the Percy Jackson novels. I would highly recommend this tour for any and all kids – even if they have never heard of Percy Jackson, the stories and information were interesting for all ages.

We spend the Easter Weekend in Athens, and the absolute highlight was this special Percy Jackson Tour! We were surprised by the history knowledge our son had obviously gained by reading the Percy Jackson books, and he was blown away by the combination of being at “true” locations of the books, seeing how the buildings looked a few thousand years ago on the special tour – iPad, and listening to the lively, entertaining and knowledgeable guide Angeliki. This Percy Jackson Tour concept is a true innovation in museum/cultural tours, and the people at the tour operator greeting.com were very supportive, reliable and friendly.

We got in touch with Greek Mythology Tours about two to three months before our trip. There were twelve of us in our party – six adults and six kids, ages 6 to 10 – so preferences kept changing a bit as schedules were rearranged. Christina Skordili from Greek Mythology Tours was incredibly helpful with initial suggestions, and as she got to know more about who we were and what we needed, she helped organize not just our tours to the Acropolis and to the Temple of Poseidon at Sounio… she also helped book a restaurant for my brother-in-law’s surprise birthday party. As it turned out, her initial suggestion was closed for the season, so she followed through with two other excellent suggestions – and our final choice was superb, Christina handling all the details of informing the restaurant of our kids’ nut allergies and the surprise birthday cake to be delivered to my brother-in-law.

She was so helpful that we asked her to book yet another tour to Mycenae and Napflion a few days after our first venture. And so flexible that when we found ourselves with a free afternoon on a Thursday, she also helped arrange a local food tour around Athens – at 8:30am that morning, for a tour that commenced at 12:30pm later that day.

Our tour guides Marialena (for Acropolis/Sounio, and Mycenae/Napflion) and Penelope (for the local food trip and walking tour) were simply superb. Trained as archaeologists, art historians, historians, able to relate everything we were seeing to history, mythology, art, and popular culture (of course the kids needed references to Percy Jackson and their everyday lives), they held our attention and kept us interested, managed the tour and transportation logistics in a superb way, and adapted to changing circumstances (pouring rain, schedule being thrown off course by traffic, etc) really and truly effectively.

I cannot say enough good things about this operation. Highly recommended!
